Crawford County sheriff's deputies sifted through evidence Monday afternoon, four days after seizing a methamphetamine lab in Roberta.

Captain Johnny Cleveland says this was the ninth meth lab deputies busted in the last three months.

Some people in Crawford County think that's a reason for concern.

"Why they're coming here, I can't answer that," said Roberta business owner Chuck Starnes. "We've got probably got meth everywhere in all the counties. Maybe we're just doing a little better job of catching them."

Captain Johnny Cleveland says he's not surprised deputies have busted so many local meth labs this summer.

"Being that Crawford County is so rural, they feel safe in making it over here and I believe that's one of the reasons they come to our location," said Cleveland. "They think they can get away with more when they don't have so many eyes upon them."

Now all eyes are on Crawford County's meth problem and people like Starnes hope as a result, meth labs and dealers will go away.

"Anytime you can see law enforcement making headway and getting these guys off the street, that's a good thing," said Starnes.

But Captain Cleveland says deputies still have work to do.

"We're gonna make it really hard on these people that do this kind of activity in Crawford County," said Cleveland.

Sheriff Kerry Dunaway says the meth lab seized on Thursday belonged to 40-year-old James Fossett of Roberta.

He was arrested and charged with possession of meth.

Sheriff Dunaway says Fossett was released from jail on Friday on $150 bond, and that further charges may be pending as the investigation continues.
